My Review:

I was so excited when the folks over at Suuthe said they’d send me some of their products to sample. I received a nice package just a few days later with 2 lip balms and 1 skin repair along with 3 sample size skin repairs to share.

They sent me an Original & Peppermint Lip Balm – I’m allergic to mint of any sort and my husband isn’t very fond of it so we passed that one on to family. The lip balm is smooth and works well. It has an abnormal shape; though I do like it. I told my husband that it looks like a miniature deodorant stick. :-) Just a few days before receiving the samples, my hands were starting to get real dry and cracking. I don’t normally have trouble with dry skin. I put some skin repair on my hands where they were dry and cracked and the next morning they were re-hydrated and healing already and super soft. So far we’ve been blessed with no injuries since receiving these products so I haven’t been able to test the skin repair on how it works on scrapes, etc.

Thankful Tuesday #4 on Wednesday *barely*

Hi Everyone!

I've been just so busy these last few days. It just hit me now that today is Wednesday and not Tuesday so I guess I'll do my post today for yesterday! :-) I don't know why I thought it was Tuesday though...we are leaving tomorrow on a trip to visit family and for weeks I've known it was a Thursday we'd leave on. I've been pretty busy preparing and getting ready to be gone from our home for 2 weeks.

Here's my list of the things I'm thankful for today:

33. The many different way to travel.
34. Encouraging promises in the Word of God
35. A new Washer and Dryer
36. Warmer days & spending time outside.
37. Painting our kitchen! Oh, it's so much better. Our house is older and all the walls are brown paneling... So, we decided -kind of on a whim - to paint our kitchen yellow. We started Saturday afternoon and finished on Monday. (Pictures to come...)
38. Electricity
39. Safety on the road for family
40. Teething gel :-)
41. The Love Dare - my husband and I are reading it together right now and have been so blessed. It's such an encouraging devotional to build 1. your relationship with God first and then 2. to build your marriage stronger. We've only been married for just a few months over a year now and we don't have any problems (to God be the glory!), but I think I can say for both of us that this book will make a difference in our walks with the Lord and together.

My Review:

My Husband & I have read this book together and enjoyed it immensely. The pages are thick and strong too & I'm sure it will last a long time. One thing my husband and I really enjoyed about this book was that while reading it you know that everything is straight from the scriptures, many passages that we are all familiar with. Many times while reading it we would stop and talk about the passage of scripture Mr. Gansky was quoting. Each section has several chapters covering that topic. The topics covered in A Conversation with God are:

God
Bible
The Future
Pain and Suffering
Jesus
Kingdom of God
Heaven and Hell
Humanity
Christian Living
Today's World

Each chapter isn't too long making it easy to read any time of the day. At the end of the book is a large section (about 50 pages) of notes. Here all the scripture references are so you can look them up in your Bible and study these topics further.

The questions are answered in a conversational manner through the perspective of God, Jesus, Abraham, Solomon, John, Paul, Titus along with many other people who walked with God in the Old and New Testaments.

Overall I found this book to be a great addition to our bookshelf and I plan to read it again sometime. I think its written easy enough to read to your children to help answer some of those really hard questions like: Why are some people rich and other poor? or Why is there disease? I would highly recommend this book to most people!

Homemade Natural Deodorant

With family history of Alzheimer's on both sides I have always tried to stay away from aluminum products. My husband's grandmother has the disease and so does my grandfather. :-( We don't use aluminum foil and I've been using natural deodorants for years. I just realized the tortillas I was buying had aluminum in them so now I'm going to be making them. :-/ (My hubby is happy!) I buy baking powder that is aluminum free too and read all the ingredient labels before buying things.

When my husband and I got married he switched over to natural deodorant as well but couldn't find a one that worked for him. He would either have flaming red underarms after a couple days of using it or find they didn't really do anything. We tried one after the other with no good results. I didn't want him to have to use the stuff that we all know is bad for us but we were running out of options, then I came across this recipe here and thought I'd give it a try. I thought it was pretty simple and if it didn't work I wouldn't be losing much! So far I'm very pleased with it and so is my husband. It didn't give him a bad rash either which is a great improvement too! It's such a simple recipe and easy to make!

Here you go:

6-8 Tbsp Coconut oil (solid state)
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch (arrowroot is preferred but I didn't have any on hand).

Directions

1. Combine equal portions of baking soda and arrowroot powder.
2. Slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon or hand blender until it maintains a firm but pliable texture. It should be about the same texture as commercial deodorant, solid but able to be applied easily. If it is too wet, add further arrowroot powder/cornstarch to thicken. I used a spoon and it took a little bit before the coconut oil was mixed in well.
3. Scoop this recipe into your old deodorant dispenser or place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. I found it sets best if placed in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes. Makes about 1 cup. This recipe lasts about 3 months for two people with regular daily use.

You can add your favorite essential oils to this recipe too if you want. I didn't have any on hand this time when I made it but I hope to add some next time I make it. I've read about them and there seems to be many favorites commonly used for deodorants. Tea Tree Oil sounds like it would be a great option and it has great antibacterial qualities.

**Sense & Sensibility ePattern Giveaway**

I'm so excited to be hosting my first blog giveaway! How fun!

I have sewed and loved it for the last 7-8+ years! My wonderful Mom taught me how to sew using simple patterns and making doll blankets. I owe all my sewing knowledge to her. She spent countless hours helping & teaching me to cut fabric the most frugal ways, sew, re-sew, re-sew, re-sew, & yes re-sew again, iron, adjust patterns, etc. It was a long rough road those first years but now I'll be forever grateful for her help. I still remember those first projects with her by my side helping me along, what wonderful memories!

Now, today I can sew and I can't wait for the day when I'm blessed to teach my future daughters (only have Mr. T - 7 months - right now...) how to, just like my Mom taught me. I pray that I'll be just as patient and hardworking as my Mom - juggling all her daily tasks and helping a little girl learn how to sew...

I was given this {below} pattern to review. I haven't had a chance to make this doll dress but I hope to soon. I'm hoping to make it for one of my younger sister (there's 4 of them). I've done lots of sewing before and really look forward to making this. I've read the instructions and looked over the pieces and have been really impressed with the effort put into them.

Cream Cheese Brownies

♥ Cream Cheese Brownies ♥

4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup butter or coconut oil
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs
1 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

Cream Cheese Filling - below

♥ Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom and sides of rectangular pan, 13 x 9 x 2 inches, with shortening.

♥ Melt chocolate and margarine in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently; cool.

♥ Prepare Cream Cheese Filling; set aside.

♥ Beat chocolate mixture, sugar, vanilla and eggs in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed 1 minute, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in flour and salt on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat on medium speed 1 minute. Stir in nuts. Spread half of the batter (about 2 ½ cups) in pan. Spread filling over batter. Carefully spread remaining batter over filling.

♥ Bake 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 2 x 1-inch bars. Refrigerate any remaining brownies.

Cream Cheese Filling
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 egg

Beat all ingredients until smooth.
